A high elf magus.

magus is able to blend the martial use of arms with the practice of magic, becoming a warrior of unparalleled versatility and power. A Magus is the magical counterpart of the soulknife.  These are they who spend their time perfecting the use of individual weapons, becoming masters without equal. The magus is at once a student of both philosophies, blending magical ability and martial prowess into something entirely unique, a discipline in which both spell and steel are used to devastating effect. As he grows in power, the magus unlocks powerful forms of arcana that allow him to merge his talents further, and at the pinnacle of his art, the magus becomes a blur of steel and magic, a force that few foes would dare to stand against.

History of the MagusEdit

Also called the Magi by the Archemeniads, they came into being during one of the Old Empires about 2,500 years ago.  Unlike soulknives, which were harder to train to create a knife, the magi were easier to train.  Also unlike their counterparts -- it took longer to train as a magus.

Magus and soulknife clashed throughout history, mostly this manifested as rivalries than as conflicts between two foes.  Legendary were the tale of Ekalavya (a magus) and his companion and blood brother Mahendra (a soulknife), a tale from Aryavarta.  The pair were legendary as their devotion to each other as well as their rivalry.  They tried to out compete each other in battle, trying to figure out who can perfect their bladed arts either through the psyche or through magic. They both died together and were buried side by side because of their strong friendship.

In recent history, the Archemeniads became enamored with sorcery, and the Archemenaid King would be protected by ten thousand magi, known as the Immortals.  However, this unit's back was broken by the Soulknife Phalanx on Alexander's side.  It was such a deadily blow to the profession that the Magus hadn't been able to recover in the region since.  The art of the Magi is slowly dying in Phaeselis, as many of the Magi who attacked the city was taken into slavery and mind seeded into something else.  Only a few are trained, and these are the few and the proud.

A female Magus by Yama Orce.

Magi spend much of their time traveling the world, learning whatever martial or arcane secrets they can find. They might spend months learning a new sword-fighting style from a master warrior, while simultaneously moonlighting in the local library, poring through tomes of ancient lore. Most who take this path dabble in all sorts of lore, picking up anything that might aid them in their search for perfection.
