Alalia is the Western most apoika, or independent city, in Magna Hellas.  It's eastern counterpart, Alexandria Eschate, is four hundred miles west of the lands of the Middle Kingdom.  Alalia is around the pillars of Hercules and is located in a favorable location next to a few Phoenician colonies.  The city itself was founded as an apoika by the inhabitants of Ithaca, and is an Ionian type city.

History[]

Alalia was founded by Brutus of Ithica, who took three thousand colonists with him, some of whom are Aeolians.  Sailing beyond the Pillars of Hercules to escape a coming storm, the Colony fleet faced the powers of the Western Ocean for the first time.  The fleet sailed for five days through treacherous waters before finding a suitable harbor to put down roots.

Brutus landed his colony fleet and they began the work of colony building.  Through the years, however, they learned to navigate the treacherous ocean and they build ships with a deep belly in order to navigate the ocean and to trade with the peoples of Western Libya and the Blessed Isles.  Being the Westernmost colony, the people of Alalia trade with the Iberian celtic tribes as well as the Phoenician colonies around the city.
